6 inch or 12 inch, Which One Is Better For A Comfortable Sleep

Memory foam mattress offers comfortable and sound sleep, but only when you will buy the aptest one. The foam comes in 5 thicknesses, 6 inches, 8 inches, 10 inches, 12 inches and 14 inches. Each one has its distinct characteristics. Here, we are comparing 6 inches and 12 inches memory foam mattress. Which is better and why.
There is a general perception in people that thicker mattress is better, as they are more comfortable, long-lasting and supportive, but is this just a perception or realistic. If you are considering buying a mattress online in the USA, it`s important information for you. Let’s check.

Relation Between Mattress Thickness and Sleep Quality
The first and foremost thing, mattress thickness is not the only factor that decides the sleep quality. Instead, there are many more, such as its level of firmness, cooling effect, body contouring effect, bounce, motion transfer, support, etc. In addition to that, your body weight and sleeping position also matter.

There are advantages of sleeping on a thick mattress but again what matters is the composition of the mattress. If the mattress is composed of more memory foam, than you would get a good body contouring effect, motion transfer, bounce and other features, but if it has more other material, then it is hard to say, and your sleep experience would surely be at the peak either good or bad.

Mattresses usually have five layers. The top two layers are called the comfort layer. This layer plays a key role in responsiveness, cooling and reduced motion transfer of a mattress. The bottom two layers are called a supportive or foundation layer. The middle layer is called a support layer that balances the flexibility and rigidity to maintain the spinal alignment.

The bottom two layers make 50 percent of the whole thickness of the mattress. The thick memory foam mattresses have all five layers in a balanced proportion. If you are planning to buy a gel memory foam mattress, then check the entire composition of the mattress, not just the thickness.

Importance Of Foundation Layer In Mattress
Many buyers take the foundation layer for granted, even though it is one of the important parts of mattresses. The insufficient foundation layer would not be able to give the required support to the mattress. It leads to the sinking of foam after a few years of use.

It is not easy for makers to add all five layers in thin mattresses. The ideal thickness of the foundation layer is 50 percent of the total thickness of the mattress.

Talking about the thickness of the top two layers of a mattress, then it should be at least 4 inches. So, the total thickness is divided into 5 inches of foundation layer, 4 inches of the top layer and one inch of the middle layer.

Other Deciding Factor For Mattress Thickness
The other deciding factor of mattress thickness is the kind of surface you are using. If you are going to place the mattress on the floor directly, a thicker mattress of 12-14 inches is better. If you are choosing a platform bed, box spring or similar surface, you settle for 8-10 inches.

The next is your body weight. If you are a heavyweight person, choose a mattress that provides good support to your hips, shoulders and back. A thin mattress usually doesn’t provide the required comfort because of fewer layers. However, if you have a lean physique or you are buying a mattress for kids, give preference to the thin mattress. This will provide you with the required support.

If you are going to share the bed with your partner, a thin mattress won’t be good for you. The thin mattress would not take up the weight for a long time. People complain of skin hole appearance after using the thin mattress for a couple of years. Another factor is that, if you are feeling a heating issue in a traditional memory foam mattress buy a gel memory foam mattress of 12 or 14 inches, it has a better cooling system, response time in comparison to traditional ones.
